Who honestly believed the MC was dead? 343 is just trying to stir up some story hype and keep us guessing so maybe a few people on the edge will see it and pick up the game to find out what really happens.

Once chief is dead they'll lose a lot of fans who frankly don't care about 343's characters. They can't afford to kill him. And if they do, they'll probably regret it.

Chief is but a fraction of the Halo universe him dying would not STOP the universe from continuing
But hey I'm sure chiefs only gonna die until like Halo 7 or something at the end of the Reclaimer Saga
I mean 343 already have 10 years of Halo planned that includes Halo 6 and lot of possible spin offs like Reach...

There are alot of characters that many people care about not just Chief
Arbiter,Dr.Halsey,Blue Team,Buck,Gabriel Thorne,Thomas Lasky,343 Guilty Spark (Yes hes still alive),
The Didact,Mendicant Bias,Ghost of Cortana?,Admiral Cole? Red Team? Gravemind? the Primordial?
honestly if Chief dies I wouldn't be mad unless his death was super lame or something
The Casual Halo fans would be fucking pissed either way but that's about it I don't see chief dying anytime soon...

I'm agreeing with RM&T, but for a different reason. As far as the series goes, I don't really care about the MC, i don't find him an interesting character. The world around him is considerably more interesting than he is himself. That's why I liked it when the galaxy was at stake with the Halos and flood, because the situation was about a lot more than him. Now H4 was half about chief and half about the Didact, and now H5 is all about the chief and finding him. It feels like they're concentrating on the less interesting details. Maybe that's just me.

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
That's what happens when you try to add a story around a character with no real inherent character flaws or personality of any kind. 343 could have made the story about a cardboard box and it probably would have been more exciting and with more emotion than Kristen Stewart.Stevedoggen wrote:I'm agreeing with RM&T, but for a different reason. Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
The problem is that a lot of the Halo Lore explored in the games involves chief in one way or form. The problem Halo has is that it's made MC almost the centre point of the Lore as if the universe revolves around him; one of the greatest things about Star Wars is that whilst you have the whole Sith vs Jedi, Imperial vs Rebels, etc; it never once forces the Lore to revolve around it, instead it demonstrates the knock-on effects these conflicts have.

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
well basically if yu played ODSt an Reach with no problems (like me) yu wldnt mind hav the Chief out of the ecuation. seriously tho he's not the only Spartan. an I agree a bit with Stevedoggen cus really when I played halo for the 1st time the thing I enjoyed more was the flood an the halos, not the other shit.
as to the videos/trailers I findit kinda like in any other action movie. For ex: RED (the movie) bruce willies a badass cia agent when the government had no use for him they send a noob to kill him///// badass Masterchief (I think, just a teory) decides to bring back cortana (maybe using the guardians) and separates from the UNSC, so they send some noob Spartan IV's to kill him.
seriously in how many games /movies hav we seen a plot like this?????

I never said I wanted Halo to stop. I just want them start with the spinoffs already. Chief's story ended with H3. Should've made more prequels instead.

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
Exactly. You can say you want more Halo spinoffs, but in my eyes the numbered titles are all spinoffs. The chief's story is over. The universe can continue to grow, but do it in the ways the star wars universe does with their novels and the fantastic star wars tales comic series. We don't need to know more about MC. He's done. But 343 is her now, and they want to make a story about what happens after Halo 3. Which involves the chief. And frankly, I don't care what happened after Halo 3 because that's the end, let the expanded universe run with it. Who cares what happened after Halo 3? It holds people's attention because the chief is there and some part of them wants to know how he turns out.
I don't care about the didact. I don't care about spartan locke or his team. I'm interested about unknown forerunner structures and the covenant's inner politics, interested in stories on a smaller scale on some far off world involving a small team of spartans or a surprised group of marines. I don't need another big villain in the form of the didact or another gravemind. So why would I want to play H5's story? Because maybe some part of me wants to know what happens to the chief. I won't really consider it canon, and I won't really care when it ends. But I'm curious what they'll do. 343's being rather dumb though and they're shoving the first section of the story at us and removing all the mystery because we know what the story's going to be we just don't know how it ends. If MC dies I'll care less because instead of a boring unnecessary plot with the MC it'll just be a boring unnecessary plot with sci-fi allies and aliens and robots and crap. That's not Halo. Halo's about a humanity that's made breakthroughs in travel and expansion that isn't without it's flaws and a religious sect of aliens made up of different species with more technology bent on wiping them out.

The Original Trilogy and the Reclaimer Saga are Master chief centered and they should be it makes perfect sense!
343 have already acknowledged that the Original trilogy has tons of never explored stories that they will write about!
Oh and just so you know Covenant Inner politics has been explored DEEPLY in Broken Circle and the Halo 2 anniversary terminals...
Stories on a smaller scale on a far off world?! sounds a lot like Evolutions Legends and HuntTheTruth! just saying people stop being ignorant the Halo universe is huge rich and awesome!
if Halo stopped at 3 it would had been fucking stupid like seriously the Halo 3 Legendary ending haunted me for years!
and I definitely don't want these TWO to haunt me again!

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
Exactly. I applaud 343's efforts in most of those areas, except:
Spartan Ops. It's fun to play coop missions with larger amounts of enemies and generally less running if you pick the right missions, but the story's just that chick confusing the word "scientist" with "egghead" over and over again. Maybe if it wasn't so "her der we're the military and we're so great" I'd be able to take it a little more seriously.
H4 Terminals. I already said I don't care about the didact. He's just another giant villian. This isn't a marvel franchise, we don't need a new villian in every installment, and I don't want to know this one's backstory because he's going to be partially replaced with locke or chief or someone else in H5 and we'll learn their backstory too.
Forward unto dawn. It wasn't terribly bad and I appreciated the effort, but it seemed like the writing staff decided that instead of finishing their plot they'd just throw in a giant covenant attack to conveniently kill all antagonists off (other than the covenant), tie up the main plot and throw in the MC for fanservice.
Nightfall - Not done watching it but I'm at like episode 3 I think and it's actually rather boring. There just aren't enough characters, just people and a rock and some deadly worms. Go from point A to point B and lets hurry up and cut out these attack scenes they aren't necessary!
Halo Wars 2. There is absolutely no way this isn't going to involve some large scale villian and saving the world. It's an RTS, and that means large groups of units, and to justify that in canon there's going to need to be some major battles, and justify those there will need to be a major villian. And they'll either be the didact or they'll appear and never be seen again because they die at the end.
I really enjoyed Halo Evolutions, although Legends was rather hit and miss and my favorite was probably the one about Spartan 1337. I haven't read any of 343's novels yet (working though the originals slowly, bought first strike maybe 6 months ago and have yet to start it) but I doubt they would have too much intervention with that other than "include these guys pl0x" or "include this event pl0x". If they're good authors, they'll find a way to write a good book, and I've heard good things about them. But the games are no small story, they're just as large scale and save-the-universe as they've always been.

Spartan ops with the cutscenes being standalone is okay and you're right the game itself it's trash I mean there is no checkpoint system and you have infinite lives wut?
The Ur-Didact isn't! a goddamn movie villain it's just that Halo 4 made him look that way! The didact is a really well written character with actual characteristics, and goals
The terminals just showed how he went downhill from loving husband to psychotic Humans are evuul,
In The forerunner trilogy the didact is way more developed and his journey to madness is way more haunting more realistic and longer. I mean that guy went trough A LOT! he fucking interrogated the goddamn Primordial and asked him Life's heavy questions Those same questions made a whole bunch of Human scientists commit suicide but he well he still had sanity and continued on, Also in the last novel of the trilogy so much crazy shit occurs the Gravemind captures him he gets thrown in the void of space, he meets with the replica he created Iso-Didact
I mean so much crazy shit happens to him and he still sustains his sanity the Halo 4 terminals where just a minimalistic rendition of those events :P IMO the Forerunner trilogy is one of the best well written sci-fi pieces I have ever read I mean the books doesn't just follow the Didact but we learn alot about 343GS when he was a human (Chakas) Bornstellar-makes-eternal-Lasting who is later turned into the ISO-Didact, The master builder Engineer of the Halo Rings,Mendicant Bias and his conversations with the Gravemind are also amazing and the battle in the Capital is described really well and has tons of action!
Forward unto dawn was average it had its ups and downs nothing special I'm still waiting on Steven Spielbergs show to produce any minute now!
NightFall is garbage worse than Forward unto Dawn lol
and what do you mean it's not like the original trilogy had it's fair shair of villains, Tartarus,Gravemind,Prophets,Guilty Spark.etc i'ts just common
Now i'm not saying Halo wars 2 will be like that because from the looks of the trailer they're fighting Brutes and well yes their is a brute pack leader with a red mace that looks like a primary antagonist but come on Halo Wars 2 had 3 Villains and shit
Now yes the novels are REALLY good especially the newer ones like New-Blood Hunters in the Dark, Last Light,Saints Testimony.etc
The Kilo-Five Trilogy is an okay 8/10 I haven't finished it but it does have some hair tearing cringee moments but that's due to Karen Harris being the writer!
Other than that yes Evolutions is amazing and i'ts cool that they made graphic animated comics for those! Legends like you said has it's ups and downs
some of the episodes are great some are cringeey but that's due to the nature of the project which was to have different Writers create their own story withing the halo universe
The Old novels still have a place in my heart especially FoR, First Strike, and Ghosts of Onyx

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
Yeah. The difference between those guys and the didact is that most of them can be grouped together. Tartarus and the Prophets were pretty linked, get at one, and you'll get at the other. Guilty Spark floated between the roles and when he was a villian it was pretty quick to resolve, only a cutscene or a few levels later. I'd argue that the prophets and gravemind were the two opposing points of the triangle for chief, but we don't need another. It'd be like if star wars had more villians than darth vader and maybe jabba. If you got at vader it was assumed you'd get at the emporer and vice versa. It's just they're both dead and I know they're probably adding some other villian to episode 7 (no spoilers please, trying to avoid trailers for a reason) but it won't be like "oh luke you just destroyed the death star well theres this other thing so pack your bags and burn your daddy we got stuff to do" there'll be some time in between where he lives a normal life. Chief just got to float in space, from one action-packed time period to another.
