ODST has got to be my favorite! It allowed a somewhat twist to Halo's Spartan Norm, and replaced it with the Badass ODSTs. The ability to traverse the multiplayer level of Mombosa Streets was a real plus. You weren't on a set path, and the terminals were well hidden. Took me a week to find them all (didn't notice the lights guiding me to them). But there were a few downsides in my opinion: Mythic Map Pack Bravo wouldn't allow you to download it onto the Xbox for use in Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. The
Armory was a bunch of presets, rather than letting me choose which character wore my own custom armor. And you couldn't carry four grenades of each, but rather 3 (I get ODSTs are smaller than Spartans, but they at least had pockets).
- Spoiler:
- It still kinda irks me though, about the fact that when we were shown Halo 2, rather than playing as Spartan v Elite, it was going to be Spartan v ODST. You can find this proof in multiple sources, one of which is on the back of Xboxes boxes sold at the time showing Zanzibar with A Spartan with some ODSTs. It would've been cool at least to have some gameplay fun with Mythic Map Pack Bravo. Think about it, regular gametypes consisting of Spartans and Elites, but they could've added in new variations to the gametypes.
For Example: Bungie could've made it so that a series of game variants exist for Slayer, CTF, KOTH, etc.; so that it was 4 Spartans v 12 ODSTs. The ODSTs could be Insurrectionists and the Spartans be an exermination squad. ODSTs tend to be weaker when it comes to melee, and cannot jump as high. But they could still be effective as a team. That would've been cool. That, or just simply allow the player to be a Spartan, ODST, or Elite as their character in Halo 3. A bit of a fun option in my opinion, just make the ODSTs have a steroid boost to help them out with beatdowns.
(P.S.: I'm also kinda pissed at the fact that in Halo Reach, we couldn't use the ODST CQC Shoulder [Mickey], ODST Sniper Shoulder [Romeo], or ODST Bruiser Helmet [Dutch] as items in the armory. Would've been cool to be able to unlock those, or make them exclusive unlocks for players with Halo 3 ODST save files.)
(P.P.S.: It would also be cool if someone made mods for these ideas for Halo 3, ODST, and/or Reach. Just sayin'.)

The what now?
Are you referring to coop?

Re: HALO Reach on Xbone
To Heatguts:
In Halo 3 ODST, there is a level named "Mombasa Streets". This was a bit of an open world level used to find clues to what happened to your squadron. Rather than go on a specified and preselected path, you could make your own path, encounter a terminal or two, and bump into an armory unlocked by completing a mission. Essentially, it was a large HUB. You could enter some buildings, and traverse the "orange" areas (roads and courtyards) to get around.

Well, yeah, I played the campaign. But I never played ctf on that map. When you say multiplayer I'm curious if there's some mod that makes it an actual multiplayer map or if you just meant coop.

Fun fact, I ripped that map and have it in 3DS max, the damn thing is 2.59m polygons

That actually is an idea of mine, somewhat.
- Let me explain:
- You know Starwars Battlefront's main gameplay where you capture territories and have a troop population at your disposal? I was actually hoping to implement this idea into a gametype for HUUUUUUGE maps like this. Notice how it is divided into Zones? I figure that I can make it so each team starts with two zones, and a LOT of AI players. Roughly 20 Actual players is my desire per team for this type of gametype. Simply, it is a combination of other gametypes. Think of it like a check list with a single question at the top: "What game rules do you want to implement in this match?" Then check off the following:
- Flood / Infection
- CTF
- KOTH
- Assault
- Regicide
- Oddball
- Invasion
- Dominion
This can allow players to select what they want. Simply, the player will have to take control of territories, as well as make the amount of lives the enemy has total go to zero. The more territories you control, the more lives you got; that and the better arsenals. For example, if I took control of the ONI Alpha Site; my team will have air superiority. The rooftop and the rear balconies are perfect for Hornets, Falcons, Banshees, and Dropships. But if Dominion rules are active, the enemy may have an area with Automated AA turrets, which will make it hard to take them on using your aquired Air Force.
This game mode would be perfect for use in maps like Mombasa Streets and Data Hive. Although, I would edit the maps to have all areas seen on the VISR map open and available, even make certain buildings able to be entered for better use of CQB style players and alternate routes. I would also implement a Pre-Warzone and a Post-Warzone (Day and Night) Version of the Mombasa Streets map. This way, players could use their VISR vision to see in the dark, and have more cover at night due to all the carnage that took place during the day. However, playing in the daytime show how this district of New Mombasa looked before Hell came to it's doors. And yes, you can use your VISR's map function to see Ally player locations, and enemeis that are taking fire / opening fire. Though, you can't move when you are looking at the map, so it is Risk Vs Reward:
A: Recon work for your team
B: Sneaky enemies are a potential risk

Heatguts wrote:Seems interesting. How does flood/infections tie into that though?
The flood / Zombies try to infest the whole map, while the surviving human forces attempt to fight it off area by area. Flood infects the city, or humanity clenses the region. If the flood win, a cutscene would play showing them dragging bodies to make a large biomass: The Proto-Gravemind. If humanity wins, you see Hellbringers waltzing around and burning all the surfaces in the area, eradicating the remaining flood biomass.

Re: HALO Reach on Xbone
Neat! But it kinda sucks that the whole city wasn't able to be traversed. Players even made predictions about potential DLCs to open up the closed off zones. Sadly, this wasn't the case.
But still, hoping to make this map completed, HOPEFULLY enhanced, and capable for gameplay. Still trying to come up with a name for the Battlefront-esque gametype.
Any offers?

Re: HALO Reach on Xbone
realistically speaking, the city is made in modular cells, you could just copy paste the cells into their respective opposite sections. It wouldn't be too hard and if you wanted some real variety you could very easily just model it out anyways

Re: HALO Reach on Xbone
Just thought of something to do with the Mombasa Streets map for multiplayer use. In order to add replayability, I think there should be multiple separate designs to fit certain shapes of the sectors. This way, experienced players will have a bit of a tough time remembering choke points and alternate routes. This way, newbies and veterans on the map will be on a level playing field.
(Pun intended).
Although, using your VISR map will allow you to see the map of zones you have entered in during gameplay; allowing you to plan ahead. But it will still be a Risk Vs Reward system.

Re: HALO Reach on Xbone
Or you could take the concept and assets, then design a system that generates random city outward from a center plaza point.

Re: HALO Reach on Xbone
Could be interesting. But them I would have some people saying I stole that from The Maze Runner.

Re: HALO Reach on Xbone
Maze runner was about unarmed kids gathering information while running around. Halo is about shooting people in the face... while bunnyhopping around.
You could also make two identical spawn bases and have the system generate those at some coordinates in equal distance from the center plaza. Or make the center plaza some street corner so that nobody realizes it's the center.

You can't please everyone. It's the internet. Much like R93's game choice, it'll complain about anything for the sake of it.

Good thinking. Another potential Urban style map would be a combination of the maps of District, Headlong, Terminal, and Turf; with the inclusion of a few new areas or expansions to add to the size and design of the map.
BTW, should we move this discussion of awesome maps for use in Project Drop to my ODST Fan Game thread?

Pheonix, if you're gonna talk about your fan game, talk about it in your thread and stop hijacking other threads with it. I will seriously delete all of your posts if you continue doing that.

Re: HALO Reach on Xbone
Look on the bright side. You'd get to reach post 117 again.
Back on topic, who here that has an xbone played halo reach on it and for how long? I thought I'd be playing it a lot but I've mostly shifted to H5. Only played it a few nights after it came out.
