Models for 3D printing?
Hi all,
I am new to this Forum and would like to introduce myself a little before I just start asking questions. I am a huge Halo fan and always have been ever since i started playing back when Halo 2 was the newest and greatest. The lore and universe of Halo has continued to amaze with its rich and diverse setting and characters. One thing that has been one of the best parts of Halo to me has been the fans, the Halo community is honestly one of the best I have ever encountered, and i think this game is a testimony to that. But enough about me.
When I first discovered this project all of the renders that are in the gallery blew me away, and still do. I understand that this project is still in development and it is looking amazing. The weapons are beautiful and truly a piece of art. With all of these models being unique and built specifically for this game is there any chance some day we could potentially get the models to 3D print as props. I'm sure there are a few members over at the 405th forum, myself included, would love to bring these wonderful and interesting weapons into the real world. I understand this would be a low priority in the development of the game, and that the discussion is ultimately up to the creators as it is theirs.
I look forward to hearing back from the Team here with their thoughts! Best of luck with the rest of the development project, and keep up the great work.

As far as I know, sharing high poly models is a kind of taboo.

Only because the professional modelers working on the game come on here and tear people's work to shreds. Like Gordon Ramsey judging bad food on Master Chef. (ok, maybe not that bad, but still. lol)

Moved this to commons as I feel like this wouldn't belong in the general discussion.
However, I own a 3D printer and have talked to the fellow devs about printing contingency items. For the most part, I got the green light all around with some specific conditions going into them which im not going to state

They have to figure out a new way of printing with normal maps already.

Re: Models for 3D printing?
I had an idea once of making some 3d model parts of an arbiter armor and then sticking them on a painted scuba suit after 3d printing is\t so I could dress myself as the arbiter for a cosplay :D

You should make a 1:1 model of the Warthog.
Then you can "park" it outside of your house lol.

Except triangulated stuff displaces really bad.

Better chances of making it out of metal and the proper materials. I have the tools for that in my garage (except I don't have an Oxyocedaline (spelled that wrong, somebody help) torch, so cutting metal becomes a pain). Still, I don't have the supplies to make a working M12 Turret, let alone the licenses to do so

3D printers like CAD models a lot more especially when it comes to curves.
Oxy-acetylene.
Some of the guns are in the works. And they will not be props. >:D

Re: Models for 3D printing?
as an FYI, you need permits and licenses for making them real guns.
And only a Metal 3D printer would be good for curves, not a regular one.

Re: Models for 3D printing?
The funny thing is that it will probably be easier to start with a RC sized Warthog because of the definition of current commercial 3D printers. :Plolslayer wrote:Or let's just start with a small scale hotweels warthog? XD
But also what I meant is that real curves translate better than polygonal ones. Although when it comes to the actual printer itself, getting great curves costs... A lot...
For the dmr, magnum, shotgun, and sniper rifle, licenses/permits will not be needed because 'MURICA. (Unless I plan on selling them, but that's something else entirely.)

Re: Models for 3D printing?
Making them requires a gun manufacturing permit in america

Re: Models for 3D printing?
Nah, you can legally make a gun for private ownership without permit.

But 3D printing a Warthog would be awesome, and if it was large enough you could throw in some standard RC parts, and with a touch of special sauce get a functioning 4WD (Or AWD depending on what it actually is) + 4WS. It might be a good idea to slightly overbuild some of it so you can polish it down smooth. :D

that would be awesome, but who's buying a 3d printer that big?

Re: Models for 3D printing?
You'd still need a 3D printer atleast 5 cubic feet in size
