EXACTLY! I thought I was the only one who thought that! We should notify the developers of Project contingency ASAP
to make the armors more gritty and scratched like Reach!

Reach looked pretty. Halo 4 and it's half-effort shadows bugged me significantly. it's like, I would rather have no proper shadows like in reach than have shadows that dont show until you are 5 metres away from it like in 4. It looks ugly.

I think (although this would be more work than it would be worth) that if the developers had time, they should make renders of the armor in both factory-new (halo 3) and battle-worn (reach) editions.

It was certainly better than Halo: Reach's engine, which had exposure issues and compression artifacts everywhere. I personally like the clean shapes of Halo 4, where in Reach there were normal issues all over the models.

Reach had better Textures IMO

Lightning and effects on the other hand goes to Halo 4

My favorite helmet in Halo is the Commando helmet from Reach. Something about that helmet is perfect.
