Should I make a Halo ODST Fan Game?

Ditto.

Re: ODST Fan Game
Giving feedback would be much easier if there was something on display. Or at least an indication that something will be on display very shortly.
(By the last sentence I mean, concepts are concepts. They're valuable, as long as you're willing to put in the work. Right now it appears you haven't even decided what engine you're going to use at all...)

Re: ODST Fan Game
If you want to go simple and easy, go Unity
You want to go slightly more advanced, you can try out Unreal Engine 4
You want to go hardcore, make your own.
I highly suggest you write what we call a Game Design Document, which should outline everything you plan to do in extreme detail with as minimally confusing language as possible. Leave out jargon and lore, get to the point and make sure that from a /gameplay/ perspective everything is solid. If its not completely solid then you'll have to iterate upon that, but you should at the very least make your first iteration (even if placeholders) before going on revisions.
Also, take yourself seriously, if you decide to throw in memes and jokes into it from the get go, you're going to get boned right then and there. Unless you plan to satirize or something on that level, take yourself and the game seriously. Omit any excess that could deter from the overall experience

I plan on taking myself very seriously. We would probably just start off with the prologue level, In Amber Clad, see if people like the gameplay, and then expand from thereR93_Sniper wrote:If you want to go simple and easy, go Unity

Cryengine is horrible to use, even R93 Sniper has told me before how bad Cryengine is and I have tried it before, I hate the terrain system, and documentation is awful first off.
Unity is very simple and easy to get used to and get look amazing, Unreal Engine 4 is also pretty simple just have to get the hang of it but in the end it is a great engine.
I say UE4 for you, that is what I am using the The Flood, I started with Unity but abandoned it when UE4 became free :D

Unity is better for people just breaking into the game design scene

I was actually beginning to think about Unreal. I guess it is settled. I will practice on Unity, and then get to work on Unreal when I think I am ready... lets see how this goes.

Re: ODST Fan Game
Or you could practice on the engine you intend to actually use... although I can see why you'd practice in unity since they have help specifically for migrating unity users.

Re: ODST Fan Game
You know what? Since my partner has released her script she is currently working on; I should release the one I am working on as well, to balance it out.
- Hard Drop:
- Play as the members of an ODST squad who survived the Fall of Reach. After boarding the Pillar of Autumn and getting ready for the fight once you exit slipspace, you must fight off covenant boarders, escape in a Bumblebee Life Pod. Then you must fight your way though the jungle to reach the main HUB area (a placeholder for Mombasa Streets from Halo 3 ODST) and continue to reunite with your squad. Shortly after reuniting with most of your squadmates; Captain Keys send the rest of your squad over to perform a task: make your way to the Autumn's crash site, and activate a beacon. If the current human forces lose the Halo ring, reinforcements will arrive...eventually.

Re: ODST Fan Game
I like the first Halo game, but I don't really want to play as a guy with 0 shields armed with my op pistol of doom and an ma5b.

Re: ODST Fan Game
Like he said, start learning with the engine you're going to use. No point of learning one and then another. UE4 is very nice, especially with the BP feature they've got.

Ok, this is related to the very first post on this thread
First of all, 343i doesn't screw up their games, the fan-base does.
Second, you really want to make a game with no experience as big as this?
You know how it is to make games? You know how it feels to drop a game after working 1 year on it and then starting all over again?
Making ADE wasn't Always fun you know, it'll take forever and it will probably never finish in my tempo, but if you don't have any experience at all, then you'll drop it after months!
Plz, just start experimenting with programming before being so stupid as me to jump feet-first (see what I did there?) into big projects.
P.S. I voted no :P

343 has screwed up 2 of their games already and they're about to screw up their third.

other than lolsayer stirring up more 343 drama right after being banned.
-.-
He does have a point about everything else, once you break into the development scheme it's going to be trial and error. If you truly have 0 experience your best off to start fiddling around in unity and doing small easy games like a point and click.

I wouldn't say point and click but definitely trying to get the core mechanics of your game settled first is a big deal

Actually, I'm quite sure that halo 5 will be the best of 343i
and the campaign of h2a was still awesome though, only mp was bad for a shit load of time, so they only screwd half of it up
also, I can't see why people still dislike halo 4, it got indeed one of the most boring campaigns but I wouldn't say that they screwd it up

343 drama wasn't the reason of my ban
also, thank you ;)

Which two games did 343 screw up? Was it Halo: Combat Evolved: Anniversary? Halo 4? Halo: Spartan Assault?
Halo: Spartan Strike? Halo: The Master Chief Collection? Which one?

Halo 4 and Halo MCC, MCC is still really broken lol.
Spartan strike and Assault I actually like playing to pass time, and HCE they didn't screw up cause it was just a graphics overhaul

Right-o! So, who would like to have Stationary Turrets for the UNSC as well as the Covenant? Covenant already have the Shade, AA Shade, and Fuel Rod Shade. What about Halo 3: ODSTs Stationary Gatling Gun, Gauss Cannon, and a Rocket Turret Version?

Re: ODST Fan Game
Get to build a base for gameplay first. Try things out and make sure your gameplay feels like Halo. THEN try to add extra stuff like a stationary turret.

I know, I know... I just like to plan ahead to see what the game will feature. Heck, it is probably why I am so good at working on writing projects and the script. I plan ahead what I will do in a day or two in advance, then I get to my writing the final draft built from editing the mental rough drafts. (freaked out my teacher once when I had to turn in a 3 page horror story that evolved into 16 pages of hell rivaling that of Steven king) But back to topic.
Would you guy's like to have these types of turrets as well as the standard "rip from the mount" turrets? It annoy's me when we are trying to defend a base, and some idiot takes the only turret for a stroll only to get sniped like a noob. This way, you can still have Gun-Ho players, while having a good defense point from a non-mobile turret.

We don't know if we would like them, because we don't know how it would affect gameplay.
