Re: Today was only the beginning
Fully fledged machinima?
I kinda like the 'simple Flash animation' idea better, considering that I'm a Flash animator myself, and that I don't have Halo Custom Edition...
Maybe we can have both? One party does the machinima, the other works on the Flash animation.
About the Flash animation idea, if we're sticking to the animated comic part, someone should draw the comic (because I am too lazy to draw it myself), and I can animate the transitioning.

I guess I better write a script, but we need more voice actors first. Volunteers?
I'll just call the whole project off if we don't have enough people by... say the end of friday. At 10:00 pm US Central Time.
I'm up for acting and voice acting.

The animations I make are always very short. I have yet to finish a full-length (3 minute) animation.
Here's of the best animations I've ever done.

If's there's anything to be proud about in that, it's the table animation and the walk loop as he exits the frame.
All done frame-by-frame in 2D. Animating the table was tedious, but really satisfying to watch. It's like "ERMAHGAWD I DID THAT. IN 2D. I'M SO BADASS!!"
So yeah, just showing a bit of how much I can accomplish in Flash.

Re: Today was only the beginning
Yeah, it's pretty neat. But it still needs to be within halo though.
I mean, come on, why make an animation of people doing things in a game when you can just film in the game?
I'll just make a new thread for this because it's getting a little off topic-ish... not that this thread had a topic to begin with.

Re: Today was only the beginning
Quite frankly, I don't think machinimas are as good. There's only so much you can do in-game.
Source Filmmaker is one heck of an exception. It allows you to fully edit what you have filmed in-game.

Well, unfortunately, we have exceeded the number of engines indie halo games are allowed to run on, so we will have to wait until one finishes to make a halo source.

That first one was kinda funny. lol.
And yeah... but it's an emulation of a multiplayer server, so we might need stuff like players quitting and actual first person footage and people joining effects and the server postgame carnage report and people's names showing up when you have them in your sights.

Re: Today was only the beginning
I still think an easy flash with separate moving layers for perception in moving cameras and having a solid narration is better... you can make much more and I think it'd look nicer too.

Hmm animation sounds nice but i dont think hatchet has the time to work our animation unless he wants

Re: Today was only the beginning
Well, to be frank, Flash animation is rather time consuming, especially if you're going to have to animate everything frame-by-frame like I do.
However, if it's just a moving comic with separate layers, I can spare the time to do that. Even better if others just draw the assets of the comic, so all I do is animate them in tweens and a separate VCam because I'm lazy.

Re: Today was only the beginning
But it has to look like a halo game. Granted we can do more than use stick figures, but that means it has to look like 3d Halo, with shaders and crap.
I'm not sure if we want to do advanced animations in source, or do the same vanilla animations so it looks like the actual game. It is supposed to take place INSIDE the server, INSIDE the engine. It's not like some irl dude got teleported inside the game, we are just playing the game, unable to quit or be banned, with penalties for dying.

I was talking about a motion comic, not stickfigure animation. Save that for Stickpage.
Motion comic as in this.

Re: Today was only the beginning
That was... amazing. Besides the fact that sometimes they were using ma5cs, and sometimes they were using ma5bs.
I'd also like to point out that they used some 3d animation there at around 56:XX.
I still don't think it's the right medium to present our story in. It's not happening in a real life format, it's happening in a game. Who represents a game with a flash animation? That's the halo universe right there. Not the halo game.
