The Flood may have survived

When the seven remaining Halo Rings fired and ended all life in the galaxy, the flood was eradicated. Except of course, for any flood that managed to survive within shield worlds or contained on Halos for research. But there may be Flood forms that still exist to this day from the Forerunner - Flood War.
Halos fire immense blasts of energy that causes all fauna to be obliterated, the organic matter split apart. But that is just it: the blast is that of energy. And Black Holes may have shielded the Flood from this energy blast by absorbing said energy. Picture this: you have a large room, which represents the galaxy. Place a light bulb in the center of the room, and halfway between the center of the room and its walls; place six more light bulbs in a hexagon pattern equidistant from each other. These lights represent Halos. Now place thin poles randomly around the room. Any poles that are placed within the hexagon of lights will have no shadow. But poles laying between the walls and the outer lights will have shadows on them, as well as cast shadows on the walls. These poles represent black holes. Any planets, asteroids, or ships from the war that lie within the shadows of these poles would be spared from the blast of the Halo Rings. Somewhere on the outer rim of our galaxy, the Flood could have survived their apocalypse. However, due to Hawking Radiation, black holes die. But there are two potential outcomes to this.
Either way, the flood may return in the future of Halo, and not come from a ring or shield world.

- Outcome A: Sudden Release:
- According to the theory, a black hole will release all it has absorbed all at once upon death. Thus, the energy that was stored within could suddenly burst and eradicate all life within a certain perimeter. Since the energy isn't focused in one direction anymore, it will be directed in all directions of a radius around the black hole. Thus, if any planets that exist on the VERY EDGE of the galaxy at the time of the Forerunner - Flood War and still exist to this day, they may have Flood on them that may be out of range of this secondary blast. If this "sudden release" is the only outcome of a Black Hole, the Librarian may have planned for it. Thus, those key ships holding the DNA of every gathered species would be released AFTER these black holes died. Thus, keeping life out of danger since the blast would render certain planets planned for reseeding; lifeless. If she hadn't planned for it, we could possibly get an interesting novel of a new Human Colony's encounter with the flood and Doctor Halsey claiming that this colony will need to evacuate due to a nearby black hole giving off energy readings similar to that of a Halo Ring. However, the UNSC cannot risk evacuation until the Flood is pushed back. Thus, leading to an impasse where Spartans and other UNSC assets combat the flood and defend the rest of the colony settlements and Slipspace outta there before the Black Hole dies.
- Outcome B: Gradual Release:
- Another theory states that the Hawking Radiation given off by a Black Hole is simply the contents of all matter absorbed by the Black Hole seeping out in a form of radiation and condensed matter, lying at the event horizon. If that is the case, then many more worlds could carry the Flood since the energy wouldn't be suddenly released as a sort of aftershock, but gradually released. Upon the Black Hole's death, all matter will be released that it had absorbed, but energy would have seeped out over the eons it was stored within. Which means that many planets may have flood. Which means, that since the Gravemind we saw in Halo 2 and 3 is gone, we may have a chance for another Gravemind to form on this planet. A Gravemind that houses the memories of the last due to all forms of flood having a hive mind of sorts. We could have an interesting novel or comic or something describing epic events as the new Gravemind attempts to free itself of its cage upon select scattered worlds to wreck havoc upon the galaxy once more. Who knows, it could be made into a series as certain Spartans prove to be influential in stopping the Gravemind's efforts. (Fireteam Majestic perhaps)
Either way, the flood may return in the future of Halo, and not come from a ring or shield world.
