Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
@lolslayer, I'd be inclined to agree if the shadows it rendered in realtime were visible from more than 3 metres away
https://youtu.be/-gQMulb6T2o?t=5m50s.
I personally saw a lot of areas in Halo 4 suffered harsh cull distances too, though never this bad. What's the point of cool lighting it it's so intense it can't show it, or makes areas overbright/overdark.
I've seen TSC:E and what directed lightmaps can pull, and tbh I prefer it's clean yet slightly retro look. But that's just, like, my opinion.

Hmm.. you're absolutely right. I just wrote that in a different manner that they gave Lighting engine a pretty lame-a** instruction set for the armors. Like it overdoes it on some places and gives it a shiny look like plastic... Argghhh! It's negligible. Lets drop it!! Lighting on the other stuff looks neat!lolslayer wrote:Halo 5's real-time shadows and lighting is much better then any previous title, it's the shaders on the armour you peeps dislike

Less of the "lighting engine" as you call it, more of how the materials were set up.

That's in the campaign only I think, because I can clearly see the shadow of the wasps like 20m away in this video:

Earlier, 343 Industries announced a release date for HALO 5: Forge alongside a brand new HALO app for Windows 10.
"Halo fans are going to have some shiny new toys to get their virtual hands on come September 8."

They also released the spec requirements. A bit higher than I was expecting, but I expect that the recommended specs have been inflated a bit to ensure people don't become angry when their computer can't run it that well. Hopefully the options menu will be up to snuff (oh dear god, please have an fov slider), but I expect that there will be issues on release.

Some new videos from GameSpot that show pc gameplay and maps in 4K.
Not really much to comment on. Mouse control seems pretty smooth and please let there be a fov slider.

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
Yeah, fov seems a little low. I wish they had looked at the options menu in more detail, but they were in the middle of a match. Visuals do look pretty sweet, though. I'm still excited, and maybe some sort of server browser, official or otherwise, will be implemented in the future, since few of my friends are even remotely interested in this.

The HALO community's awesome. If they don't add in the browser in near future. Fans will, for sure!

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
I would definitely try it out if I had W10, speaking of which, what exactly is stopping people from somehow getting dx12 working on w7/8? I wonder if anyone has tried.

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
Fans were actually successful in porting Halo 2 to XP, which was awesome since Vista was a pile of garbage. Though Halo 5 might be a bit more difficult, since I think its engine uses a modified version of dx12.
Of course, I know nothing about dx12, but some research says that you need Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 2.0 in order to run it. WDDM is "the graphic driver architecture for video card drivers," and the rest of the wiki article says that it tries to increase performance. Dx12 likely uses that heavily, so I wonder about the feasibility of porting Halo 5 over.

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
lol 343i rearranged the REQ page again.
First it was the $20 pack and the 3 types.
Then they added the varying gold pack sizes for obscene prices
Then they attached little 'best seller' and 'maximum value' icons to the top of two of them to bullshit like they're doing you a good deal
Now they have just moved the to packs with logos to be infront of the normal Gold, Silver and Bronze packs so you have to scroll to get to it. Nearly lost $27 buying the 9 pack because I muscle memoried the menu and noticed as the confirmation message popped up.
God damn.

Ok, so if the Install size is 40GB. Download size might be around 30GB right? It'll take so much time to download it with my potatonet :(

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
Yup, you might want to go on vacation, leave the pc on and hope its finshed the download when you get back, ( got a pityful 1.3MB/sec connection myself because i won't pay for fiber )

Re: Dedicated Halo 5 Thread
I get 600 KB/s on a really good day. On a bad one I get 300 or less or perhaps the internet just doesn't work at all. Outages are pretty frequent. Also if you want to use the internet after about 4 pm you can forget it. Sometimes you get lucky and it doesn't happen til 6 or 7 pm but eventually your ping skyrockets past 500 and the speed slows to a crawl (usually less than 300 KB/s as above).Deadmeat wrote:got a pityful 1.3MB/sec connection myself
I wish we got fiber optic. I'd pick that up in a heartbeat.

Hmm Long time no see...
Well I'm just passing by to advertise about this Halo 5: W10 Discord Group
If we can get enough people on board We will be playing all sorts of modes, doing forge sessions, competitive scrims, tournaments.etc
https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/50lhg8/halo_5_pc_public_discord_server/
And just so expell some myths ahem and state some FACTS!
-YOU Need Windows 10 NSA edition...
-It's completely Free to Download.
-You don't need Halo 5 on the Xbox to download the PC version
-All the maps and modes except for Warzone and Campaign are available
-There is no normal matchmaking or custom server browsers
-There might be custom server browsers trough improvised methods like this
Discord server and other LFG sites or apps.
-The specs and requirements can be seen here https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CrTbuaYXEAAljAm.jpg
You can check out some gameplay here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szinqz7lSMo
-You can customize your armor, emblems, visors.etc trough Halo Waypoint.com
IF YOU HAVE UNLOCKED IT TROUGH THE HALO 5 XBOX VERSION
- so all the PC only players will be rocking that good ol recruit armor lol
-There are 1000 new Gamerscore points to unlock!
-Some of those achievements involve playing tons of custom games matches
-There is a built in content browser for downloading and sharing maps modes, objects.etc
-There are team chat and global chat options
-There are machinima camera options
-There is a theater mode
-The game weights 40gb!
-Whenever Halo 5 Xbox one gets a new content update the PC version will follow suite with the new forge items, maps, options, modes.etc
There's more stuff but that's just the basics :-)
